In case you didn't know, I am a total Donna Hay's fan, willing to spend $10 a month  to get my hands on her magazine.   I just realized I missed last month's magazine, I think my local store 
stopped carrying it, I better find it soon as it has lots of cookies in

I can not stop taking pictures!  I keep noticing colors, constantly seeing amazing color contrast and combination.  I buy fruit at the store just to keep the color around for a while.  I found some dainty lady apples and when I bought them home I immediately tried different bowls and color combinations.  These pictures are just examples of this.

I don't know about you, but I have been slacking recently in terms 
of nutrition.  In Italy I ate tons of vegetables, but once back in the States I

On the spur of the moment I made a batch of challah dough yesterday.  I love making bread, there is something Zen and relaxing about kneading and shaping yeast dough, seeing it rise, and then smelling the fragrance coming from the oven.

I wish I could show you pictures of my vegetable beds, but after two months of neglect my garden is all but pretty.  Just before I left I threw few beet seeds in the soil, hoping for some tender beets at my return.  As you can see I was rewarded with these beauties.

There are so many varieties of beets, this is called Detroit Dark Red, the deep red color is amazing, and the flavor mild. Bear with me please, I am having a moment here, I have to get this out of my system.  This is just plain wrong and totally unbelievable for me to witness.  I walk around my native city in a state of utter disbelief, a city that has seen years of splendor is now crushed by tourism and carelessness, ironically a city that once used capital punishment against pollution.

I had forgotten the beauty of the summer skies in Venice.   The Bay Area doesn't have the same clouds I have seen here in the last few weeks.  The weather has been really weird, chilly, with few storms that have brought unbelievable clouds.  I am not complaining since it can be really hot and unbearable in Venice, plus I can't complain about these views, can I?

Yes, I was able to finish the challenge in time...except that the florentine cookies didn't work out at all.
